I think it's the fact that it's a very, very sexist and comic-typical pose? I think you may have been going for that, and it's not detrimental or anything - just a personal annoyance. I always can't help but think, why would a girl grab onto the hero while he's clearly in a battle pose? Seems silly, unless she wants her arm(s) ripped off or is willing to die from not getting something to try and defend herself if the hero fails.
It's not that I disagree with you. I do think it's a cliched and sexist pose. The whole thing is silly. But it isn't meant to be taken seriously. It was more about the subtext.

I thought the juxtaposition of a Windwaker cartoony-style Link and a Frazetta-ish composition would be funny. Especially considering the entire plot of every Zelda game -- this kid going on an adventure to save a princess in a castle -- is pretty old school and silly to begin with.
